An architectonic style called Baroque Gothic which has no parallel anywhere in Europe, rose in Bohemia at the beginning of the 18th century as a result of modification of gothic elements to a purely Baroque style. The funeral church of St. John from Nepomuk in Zelená Hora, near Žďár nad Sázavou, was built in this style during 1719 - 1722. The building was constructed according to the project of Jan Blažej Santini-Aichl (1677 - 1723), a Czech architect of Italian origin. The shape of five pointed star, mutual overlapping of spatial objects, dynamics of the construction material defying the weight of the walls - all this proves the extraordinary qualities of this architecture.
